As a bedside RN, I always made my patients and their family members feel as comfortable and welcome as possible. 

By putting myself in my patients’ shoes and imagining how it must feel to be in an unfamiliar setting, be either ill or injured, and be cared for by complete strangers, I recognized the value of one simple trait: kindness. 

Something as simple as being friendly and kind to my patients would put them at ease and allow them to focus on what they needed most: recovery and healing. 

When collaboration on a project is done in a friendly way, with each member respecting the other’s time, role, and expertise, I find the process flows more smoothly and everyone’s goals are met.
